Dealing with fear: what's the worst that could happen?
Do you only ever take on tasks you are confident you can already achieve?
Do you worry about feeling embarrassed or stupid in the eyes of others?
Do you make excuses when it comes to moving from the planning stage to actual work?
These are all signs that you have a fear of failure, that you worry what others might think if you don't succeed.
This week's task is to follow a fear through to its natural conclusion. Think of something that scares you and try to imagine the worst possible result; really add the horns on that devil.
Once you've worked through this worst case scenario, take sometime to think of the most likely outcome and the kinds of solutions you may have to employ to manage it.
Now you have a much better idea of the potential pitfalls and the efforts you can make to avoid them.
What was your worst scenario? And what new challenge will you try this week as a result of your thought process? Let us know at Making Change Stick.
